Miguel Migs, one of house music’s ‘leaders of the new wave’, has compiled and mixed the last ever installment of NRK’s acclaimed nite:life mix series. NRK have decided to draw their influential mix compilation series to a close, and have ensured the talents of the San Francisco deep house don in order to end on a high. Miguel Migs has come a long way since mixing his debut compilation for nite:life back in 2001 (nite:life 03), so it’s very fitting that he closes the series in the style which nite:life has embraced. His position in the house music fraternity has escalated with a slew of top productions on labels such as Om, Naked Music, NRK, Astralwerks and Transport as well as high profile remixes for Roger S, MJ Cole, Sade and yes, Britney Spears! Miguel has programmed a mix packed with quality house sounds, full of new producers and new labels, silencing any of the doubters who thought house music was on a limb. Artists such as Kerri Chandler, Fred Everything, Ian Pooley, Trevor Lovey and Migs himself are featured on the 75 minute mix whilst labels such as Om, Freerange, Soulfuric, Paper and Swing City ensure that these great tracks came to light in the first instance. The nite:life series surfaced in 2000 with a clear manifesto; to offer an alternative to the big commercial compilations, all featuring the same ‘big’ tunes, by taking the world’s freshest DJs, the most underground and forward thinking music and creating a series that will be just as relevant in the future as it is in the present day. By featuring the cream of the underground crop, NRK now feel that they have achieved what they set out to do, and that the series has drawn its own natural conclusion.
