The second sampler to be released in support of DJ Sneak’s forthcoming “Back In The Box” selection on NRK Music.
Having somewhat of a renaissance of late due to an infamous back-to-back session with Ricardo Villalobos, DJ Sneak aka Carlos Sosa has a history of continually staying ahead of trends and making house and techno that really matters. This makes him the perfect Back In The Box candidate (following on from Dave Clarke, Louie Vega and Joey Negro), where unearthed gems and anthems from days gone by are delivered with a fresh outlook.
Another four stone cold classics on this disc……DJ Sneak’s very own “All Over My Face”, the Loose Joints sampling track from 1995, and definitely a track that shaped the DJ Sneak sound. Pure jackin energy with a great disco touch. Some classic French filter bizness next, from Cheek AKA DJ Gilb’r, and DJ Gregory on the remix of “Venus”. This track was huge back in 1996, and still sounds fresh and relevant today with its heavy drums, booming bassline and party feel.
On the flip, the absolutely essential “Life Is Changing” by Italian Cricco Castelli. Released in 1997, this track has a landmark record, getting caned by the likes of Derrick Carter, Sneak and the rest of the Chicago massive. Slammin drums and that memorable Rhodes key pattern and sax riff, what a tune! Completing the package is a underground gem from Johnny Fiasco. Released on the Cajual label, “Conduction” is a stone cold classic track, heavy and incessant phased 909 drums and those hypnotic bleeps, pure trackhead material!
