Grammy Award winning, Masters At Work main man, ‘Little’ Louie Vega, compiles and mixes the second instalment of NRK’s Back In The Box series. A veritable who’s who of house music’s glorious past, this double mix retrospective of a golden era includes tracks & remixes from Murk, Blaze, Romanthony, Reese Project, Black Science Orchestra, Todd Terry and many more.
House pioneer “Little” Louie Vega steps up to the platters to mix the second compilation in this new series. Honing his skills on the NY club circuit in the mid-80s, Vega collaborated with Kenny “Dope” Gonzales for the Masters At Work project that has since gone on to spawn countless dance music “moments” (“I Can’t Get No Sleep”, “Work”, “To Be In Love”), and helped create and shape the house music sound as we know it. And proving that dance music is truly an all encompassing genre, Vega’s Nu Yorican Soul project enlisted the likes of George Benson, Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayres, Tito Puente and Jazzy Jeff for a string of anthems like “I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun”, “It’s Alright, I Feel It” and “Runaway”. Quite simply, Vega has earned his stripes, and continues to win Grammy Awards, produce club hits, multi-instrumentation album projects, and DJ the world over.
Vega revives his “Little” Louie Vega tag especially for Back In The Box, and lays down a memory evoking 2 ½ hour mix over two CDs. Stone cold classics rub shoulders with those tracks that worked it for Vega back in the day, but didn't necessarily break through to "classic" status. The tracklist reads like a "who's who" of dance history; Todd Terry, Blaze, Black Science Orchestra, Eric Kupper, Romanthony, Ralphie Rosario, Michael Watford....even Norman Cook makes a surprise entry under his Mighty Dub Katz guise!
BACK IN THE BOX is a brand new series from leading UK house label, NRK. Taking the World’s leading and longest serving DJ legends, B.I.T.B. invites them to plunder deep into their collections to those old house records that rocked the party time and time again, records that have since been left dormant on the shelves, waiting for the right moment to be dusted off (and this is that moment!). We’re talking about those records that shaped and influenced a whole music scene, from that golden era of house music from the late 80s-mid 90s. A mix that will evoke great memories of lost nights on the dancefloor, B.I.T.B is the trip back in time you’ve been waiting for.
