Three essential Joey Negro 12"s to add to your collection for the bargain bundle price of £7.99!
Joey Negro revived his Akabu project in 2003 with this killer track full of Chicago passion and raw NYC edge. Seamus Haji reviewed this in Update, heralding " “Remember the Jungle Wonz from the late 80’s and it’s very much in that sort of retro Chicago house vein with a rolling Marshall Jefferson style bassline and atmospheric pads. We should have a Mood House revival!
A year later and Akabu returned to NRK with 'Don't Hold Back'. Unveiling the darker side of Mr. Negro, ‘Don’t Hold Back’ is a reworking of his cult underground track from 2000, ‘Your Wildest Dreams’. Updated (but forever with a nod to the past) for 2004, a new dreamy acapella floats over the thumping house workout. It’s as sweeping and cinematic and most of his productions. Check the Broken Mix for something a little different, a devious acid line bubbles away over the haunting keys and sinister keys.
Wrapping up the package are the tasty Joey negro remixes of 'Innocent' by Q-Burns Abstract message. A former DJ Magazine Hype Chart #1, this Lisa Shaw vocal cut received the remix treatment from Joey Negro who turned out two great mixes that helped this underground cut cross over into the cooler mainstream clubs.
